TR 2335. Folkestone. Eight bricks were discovered in 1808, while building a new pier. The bricks were fourteen inches long, six inches wide and weighed fourteen pounds each. They were stamped with a coat of arms surmounted by a coronet. the bricks were found among the foundation stones of the old harbour, of which "no tradition remains". They may have formed part of the ancient stade swept away by the sea in 1629; the same year that Folkestone was granted a licence by the king to build a pier. (1,2) Information supplied by Captain Rickets. (2)
The location where the bricks were found is unknown so the record is only accurate to the nearest 1 km.
