Summary

An early medieval Saxon fibula was found at Folkestone Hill, between Folkestone and Dover with a human skeleton. It was discovered near the turnpike road, some years ago. It is of gilt bronze, the central band ornamented with slices of garnet, one of which remains at the bottom in a silver rim. the upper part is also set with stones or some kind of glass.It is in the possession of Mr Hills.

TR 2437. A Saxon fibula was found at Folkestone Hill, between Folkestone and Dover. It was discovered near the turnpike road, some years ago. It is of gilt bronze, the central band ornamented with slices of garnet, one of which remains at the bottom in a silver rim. the upper part is also set with stones or some kind of glass. It is in the possession of Mr Hills. (1)

On the hill on the road from Folkestone to Dover, a bronze gilt fibula was found with a human skeleton, the remains of armour and other objects. Information supplied by Mr. W Hills, Museum, Chichester. (2)

(1) and (2) appear to refer to the same fibula. (3)
