[TR 238378] A small collection of Neolithic pottery, found by Mr. R. Grace near the eastern end of Creteway Down about 300 yards west of the Valiant Sailor Inn at the top of Dover Hill, was acquired by the B.M. in 1956.(a) Recent ploughing and building activities produced two complete beakers, fifty sherds of Windmill Hill ware and several flints. The site appears domestic in character but the relationship between it and the beakers is not known. (1) Creteway Down, Folkestone. The flint artifacts include eight end scrapers, a leaf-shaped arrowhead finely worked on both faces, two serrated flakes, two cores, and a few flakes. The sherds of pottery belong to five different types of pot and two main grades of Neolithicware are represented. One is thick and coarse with large flint grits and the other finer and thinner with sparse grit. (2) Geophysical survey (at TR 2380 3790) identified a series of enclosures, trackways, pits and associated features; all the evidence indicates multi-period activity, though it is not possible to suggest any dates. Major arch. features appear to be concentrated in the central core of the survey area, the E. half is relatively devoid of features. Possibility of burial/cremation cemetery existing in the area.
