Standford Hill (otherwise known as Stamford or Stanford Hill) was the site only Charles Rolls experimental glider flights in 1909. The glider was based upon a Wright 'Flyer', and constructed by Short Bros as aircraft makers to the Aero Club. The glider was launched by being pushed down a rail into the wind with an assistant at each wing tip. After a hop of a few feet a horse was used to return to the top.(1)
