A chalk mine accessed from a chalk quarry off Frindsbury Road operated by Col. West a brickmaker of Strood during the late 19th century and the early years of the 20th. The chalk was extracted for mixing with brick earth. Information about the mine is in the possession of the Kent Underground Research Group.who included it in a book entitled 'Kent Underground'.
