Cropmarks observed in Google images 2nd May 2007 reveal an Anglo-Saxon cemetery in a field to the west of the A2 near Bishopsbourne. (1)
A trial trench dug by Swale and Thames Archaeological Survey Company in 2009 located seven inhumations. Three were excavated: one was empty, a second had a small amount of bone and disturbed grave goods whilst the third was partially excavated, only the skull being exposed at the south west end of the grave. The grave goods from the second burial consisted of a copper alloy buckle, a pin, an iron knife and a nail. The buckle was dated to the period c. AD 550-625. (2)
