Memorial Arch. 1856 by Matthew Digby Wyatt with cast-iron gates. Tripartite archway with keyed round arches, enriched frieze, cornice, foliate brackets flanking taller central arch with a raised inscribed parapet. Pilaster strips have inset inscribed panels and central roundels, relief figures holding flags to upper spandrels, and coffered soffits. Upper entablature inscribed UBIQUE (the Royal Engineers' motto); QUO FASET ET GLORIA DUCUNT. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: decorative bronze gates with wickets to smaller arches. Part of an axially-planned group with the Barracks, Institute and Boer War memorial arch (qqv).
