Summary

A late 18th century smock mill which was transferred to the site in 1807. The mill is weatherboarded on a tarred brick base. The mill continued in this use until the 1930's when all work ceased. It was used as a television relay station, but is now reconstructed as a mill Grade II listed building. Main construction periods 1767 to 1939 Ripple Windmill

Description from record TR 34 NE 23:
(TR 36204904) Windmill (disused) (NAT) (1) (TR 36204904) Windmill at Ripple. The remains of a smock mill taken over by Rediffusion Television Limited in 1955. At this time the remaining patant sweep and internal machinery were removed. This windmill may have been originally sited at Drellingore, near Hawkinge. The mill appears on a tithe map of 1840 and was in use continuously up until the end of the second world war. (2) TR 34 NE Ripple Windmill, Dover Road, (West Side) Ripple. 8/70 11.10.63 Grade II. Windmill. Late C18, rebuilt 1807. Weather boarded on tarred brick base. Two storey on brick base with wooden smock over. Upper row of cogs on smock survive, otherwise sweeps, cap and fan all missing. Entry by boarded door recessed in octagonal base platform built out around mill site. Originally erected at Drellingore, near Hawkinge, re-erected here 1807, continued in use a s mill to 1930's and now usedas television relay station.
