[TQ 50724934] The Mount [T.I.](1)

[Circular mound published.] A sub-circular artificial clay mound, apparently undisturbed, 20m x 18m x 2.2m high, situated just below the highest part of a ridge and covered with trees and bushes. It has a large pit close by which may by connected, but is certainly of some antiquity and interest as it stands in 'Mount Field' Its nature is doubtful. Published 1/2500 survey correct. (2)

Survey in 1984 suggested the site was either a landscape feature or small Norman motte. (5)

Sample excavations were undertaken in 1985. The Mount is 2m high and stands on a natural clay ridge. It is unlikely to be a motte or post-mill, and seems likely to be an ornamental landscape feature, possibly 17th - 18th century in date. (6)
