During grave digging evidence of Early - Mid Iron Age occupation was found in the form of pottery sherds and a pit. The site seems to have had a long history, although not continuous, from the Neolithic (TR 35 SE 36) through to the Romano-British period. (TR 35 SE 34).

In 1977 60 sherds of Iron Age pottery, c.600 - 300 BC, and a small quantity of animal bone were discovered (TR3687351450) (TR 35 SE 74)

In 1985 a pit was recorded in a new grave cut (TR368751406). The pit was between 0.12 & 0.20m deep sealed by probbably hillwash and contained three sherds of Iron Age pottery of a similar date to those found in 1977.(1)
