Examination of the fabric of the bridge which carries Flying Horse Lane over the River Dour suggests that some of it is of later medieval date. The bridge has been much repaired and seems to have been widened on the northern side during the 18th/19th centuries.(1-2)

A number of post medieval cartographic sources depict the position of Flying Horse Lane and the bridge over the river Dour at the eastern end of it including that by Foquet dating to 1737 (4) Thomas Digges dating to 1595 (5)
