The brewery was established sometime before 1743 and closed in the early 1920s. The only remaining building of the complex is the Old Brewery House (TR 35 SW 327).

Established in 1840 (or by 1743 (2)) by John Bowes and run by various members of his family until 1898, until it was acquired by Owen Clark. By 1902 it was acquired by L.A. Faurett and then by T.N. Cheatle in 1912. The brewery ceased operating in 1924. (1). The site has since been cleared, the only remaining building of the complex is the Old Brewery House (TR 35 SW 327).

In 2010 some elements of the site were exposed during a watching brief. These consisted of pits and services mostly of 19th century date but one brick lined pit was possibly of 18th century date. Footings for brick structures were also found, as was a concrete floor. (2)
