The Oak Brewery first operated, under Miskin, before 1870. It was probably acquired by Kidd & Son sometime before 1882 who changed its name to Steam Brewery in 1890, when the brewery was reconstructed and enlarged. In 1937 it was acquired by Courage & Co. Ltd and brewing ceased. The brewery was demolished in 1939 and a Co-Op store is now on the site.(1) The exact location of the maltings is unclear.
