Summary

A brewery and malt kilns were formerly located at 38 Fort Road, Margate. The brewery was erected in 1760 and rebuilt in 1808. It was owned by Cobb & Co. from around 1899 and was acquired by Whitbread in 1968. The brewery closed shortly after this and was demolished in 1971.

The Margate Brewery was founded in 1673, when Cobbs was home brewing. The brewery was not erected until 1760 and was rebuilt in 1808. Cobb & Co are recorded as owning it from around 1899. Acquired by Whitbread in 1968, who then closed it. It was demolished in 1971.(1) In the South eastern complex of the brewery are Malt Kilns, TR 3552 7118. They are in a L-shaped building, prob. a rectanguler building with an extension on the south east side.(2)
