Summary

The site of a former chalk mine is located at the crossroads in the north east area of Challock. A flint crushing plant also operated at the site until the 1930's, and this was mainly used in road making. The main shaft leading to galleries adjacent to the crossroads is now the site of a garage.

Site of a chalk mine worked by the Austin family until the 1930's. Main shaft leading to galleries adjacent to crossroads now site of a garage. Flint crushing for road making also carried out. (1)
