No 4 Church Street, house built c1870 by Daniel Goodwin, founder of Goodwin's Carpenters and Builders, who also built the workshop in Bull yard behind the house. Goodwins built houses at The Row, Marlpit Hill, Eagle Lodge, Fir Lodge and four cottages on the N side of Lingfield Road. Also operated brickworks on Hever Rd prior to 1870 and on Four Elms Rd from 1886. Last of the family firm, Roger Goodwin, lived in the house until c1990. Sons Oscar, William and Louis took over firm by 1891. Goodwin Bros still operating 1938. (1) The workshop is a 2 storey brick structure adjoined to the house by a 1st floor walkway. Long windows (with off cuts of glass) to first floor workshop, atic space prob for storage with loading door and bullseye vent in gable, half of ground floor raised on cast iron pillars. Corrugated tin shed to rear of the workshop. (2)
