Summary

In 1934 a Romano-British cremation was discovered in the garden of a house called "Rathshan." The find included an urn full of ashes, one poppy head beaker, two orange/redware flagons, an early 2nd century flask(incomplete) with rouletted decoration, two Samian dishes, a Castor ware beaker and miscellaneous sherds of pottery. The items are kept at Maidstone Museum.

[TQ 6809 5687] An RB cremation (130-150 AD) was uncovered in 1934 in the garden of a house called 'Rathsan'. The group, now in Maidstone Museum (Acc. No. 27/1956), included an urn full of ashes, a small 'poppyhead' beaker 2 orange/red ware flagons, an early 2nd century incomplete flask with rouletted decoration, 2 samian dishes (1 form 18/31, 1 form 31), a Castor ware beaker and miscellaneous sherds. (1-2) The present occupier of the house knew nothing of the find and no further information could be gained. (3) The house where the Roman burial was found is called 'Rathshan'. (4)
