During an archaeological watching brief undertaken by Canterbury Archaeological Trust at The Grand Shaft Barracks in 2017 three sherds of Medieval pottery were uncovered. These sherds were of a orange-brown sandy ware, probably made at Canterbury Tyler Hill and are of thirteenth- or fourteenthcentury date. Two pieces, including a fragment of rod handle, show traces of brownish glaze. (1)
