During an archaeological watching brief undertaken by Canterbury Archaeological Trust at The Grand Shaft Barracks in 2017 a concrete drianage gutter associated with the former site of a cook house located at the south western end of the barracks site, between the edge of the retaining wall for St. Martins Steps and the southern external wall of the wash house. It was constructed of concrete and was clearly intended for carrying surface water away to the north east. (summarised from report) (1)
