Summary

During an archaeological watching brief undertaken by Canterbury Archaeological Trust at The Grand Shaft Barracks in 2017 a pathway and gutter were located just to the north of the north eastern external wall of the gymnasium at the Grand Shaft Barracks. (location accurate to the nearest 1m based on available information)

During an archaeological watching brief undertaken by Canterbury Archaeological Trust at The Grand Shaft Barracks in 2017 a pathway and gutter were located just to the north of the north eastern external wall of the gymnasium at the Grand Shaft Barracks. They were located running along the north-western side of the extrnal wall of the gymnasium, buried at a depth of about 1.00m below present ground level. It had a tarmac surface about 1.00m wide and must represent an external pathway running along the outside of the building. Its surface had a slight fall away from the building and it was bounded along its north-western side by a shallow, open, brick-lined drain/gutter.
