The bomb crater is centred at TR 0852 2810, and measures approximately 12m in diameter. It has a narrow banked rim around the edge of the perfectly circular crater. It is thought this may be a result of the loose shingle characteristic of the ground in this area, which would have been upcast by the explosion.
The bomb crater is at the site of the pre-war Littlestone Airfield, which is identifiable on aerial photographs through the landing circles cut into the turf (Monument Number 1535604). The bomb crater is in close proximity to a gridded network of Second World War anti-aircraft landing obstruction poles (Monument Number 1535077).
By the time of the vertical aerial photograph of 1946; the bomb crater is not visible either as an earthwork or a cropmark (1-2).
