A rocket post is only visible on the Epoch 3 (1908) edition of historic 1:2500 Ordnance Survey mapping, located less than 500m from the coast of Dungeness [1]. The post is no longer visible on the Epoch 4 (1950) edition [2].
Rocket posts were used to fire a line from the shore to a stricken vessel in order to allow the crew/passengers to be pulled in to shore safely. The position of the rocket post was given a monument point during historic mapping enhancement as part of Phase 1 of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey.
