(Summarised from publication)

During extensive rescue excavations undertaken across Dovers Town centre by Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit, substantial remains of the Classis Britannica fort were uncovered and recorded. A section of the northern ditch and berm was located during a small excavation on Durham Hill (Durham Hill north site) in 1971.

The berm was 1.51m wide and topped with a pebble metalled surface about 5cm deep which abutted the forts northern wall. The ditch showed clear evidence of two phases, the first had been substantially destroyed by the second. The second ditch was a well defined V shape, 3.77m wide at its outer lips and 1.33m deep. It contained three main fills the middle of which contained large quantities of domestic rubbish and upper demolition debris. (1)
