(Summarised from publication)
During extensive rescue excavations undertaken across Dover’s Town centre by Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit, Substantial remains of the Classis Britannica fort were uncovered and recorded. A chalk block drain was located midway between the inside face of the fort wall and the west wall of the later barrack block (B30), during a small excavation on Durham Hill (Durham Hill south site).
The drain was traced for a total of 5.3m north-south across the site where it was generally 25-30cm wide and 30cm deep. Its base was un-lined and sides were constructed of chalk blocks set on edge. One large chalk block capstone was also recovered. (1)
