(Summarised from publication)
During extensive rescue excavations undertaken across Dovers Town centre by Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit, substantial remains of the Classis Britannica fort were uncovered and recorded. A chalk block drain was located between the west granary and a later barrack block, during a small excavation on Durham Hill (Durham Hill south site).
The drain appears to have been cut in from a high level, in an area of pebble metalling representing the west intervallium road. It had a chalk block base, side walls built of either one large or two single courses of chalk blocks and a greensand capstone. 1.5m of the drain was traced running north-south across the site with a width of 21 to 27cm and depth of between 26 and 36cm.
