Roman chalk block wall found during an archaeological evaluation carried out by Canterbury Archaeological Trust in 2009 at the site of 1-7 Cowgate Hill, Dover. The wall was set within a foundation trench and was at least 0.32m wide. It was sealed by a Roman floor and a number of layers and pebbled surfaces of apparently post medieval date. It is possible that it was part of one of the interior structures within the Roman fort of the Classis Britannica, but this is not confirmed. It was traced for a minimum distance of 0.76 m. in the sides and base of post-medieval pit and was constructed from neatly faced chalk blocks set in cream-brown silty clay. The full width of the wall was not exposed but it was at least 0.32 m and was a minimum of 0.27 m. high. (taken from source) (1)
