Roman chalk block wall found during an archaeological evaluation carried out by Canterbury Archaeological Trust in 2009 at the site of 1-7 Cowgate Hill, Dover. . The wall was at least 0.45 m wide. It was sealed by a number of layers and pebbled surfaces of apparently post medieval date. This wall may have once formed part of one of the structures within the Roman CLBR fort but this is not certain.

The wall was located running north-south in the north-eastern corner of the trench, the top of this lay at a depth of 0.53 m. below present ground level (at 14.27 m. O.D.). The wall was traced for a minimum distance of 1.30 m. and it was at least 0.45 m. wide. The south end appeared to have been cut away. It was constructed from large, neatly cut rectangular chalk blocks, set in cream clay containing frequent chalk pellets but its full height was not ascertained. No evidence for any associated floor levels was exposed and the structure remained partially buried below later deposits. (taken from source) (1)
