The Fort Halstead site is located on a prominent hilltop, which is part of the North Downs, to the north-west of the village of Dunton Green. The site includes both the late C19 Mobilisation Centre ('Fort Halstead’) in the south of the site and a large number of buildings associated with the research facility to the north and north-east of the fort. Building F18 lies within the fort.

F18 was added to the complex in 1948.

RECORDING LABORATORY (BUILDING F18)
F18 is a single-storey, flat-roofed structure of red brick English bond with metal framed casements. Access is now through a pedestrian door in the east elevation, a further door in this elevation having been blocked. This building is square in plan. It was not inspected internally but an original plan of February 1948 indicates that it was divided internally by a broadly north-south partition wall. (1)
