This feature is recorded in the English Heritage Historic Area Assessment for Cliffe parish. The report states:
"Primrose Cottages, a pair of semi-detached cottages built in 1833 at No. 168 Church Street are illustrative of this modest increase in the agricultural workforce during the first half of the century. The initials 'JO' in the date dplaque possibly refer to John Osmotherly Sen. Or Jun. who figure prominently as both owners and occupiers in the survey." (1)
