During the Second World War an anti-tank pillbox was built opposite Barham Court, Teston. It was sited to defend Teston Bridge in conjunction with a second type 28A located 120 m to the south-west. It was concrete faced and was built to site a 2pdr or 6pdr gun. The pillboxes were part of the main British defence line called the GHQ Line which in Kent ran along the Medway.
