Archaeological work carried out as part of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link project found a Roman building. The building extended south of the excavated area and only an area c. 5m x 6m was uncovered. It was of substantial construction with a semi-circular 'apse-like' feature and has been interpeted as a possible bath-house in property 1.

The building was built in a single phase and it is suggested that it was long-lasting. A tentative 2nd century date was suggested but there was nothing to indicate when it might have fallen into disuse. There were few finds but these included floor tile embedded in pink mortar and undiagnostic Roman pottery. No evidence of a hypocaust or pool were found within the area excavated and the interpretation as a bath-house rests on the layout and the semi-circular 'apse'.(1)
