In 1974 a Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit excavation undertaken in an area formerly occupied by Centurian House, off Bench Street, Dover, revealed Post medieval cess tanks. (location accurate to the nearest 20m based on available information).

Excavations undertaken by Kent Archaeological Rescue unit in 1974, at the former site of Centurion House on Bench Street, Dover (in an area now occupied by a car park on the north eastern side of the street), uncovered a number of features and deposits of both a post medieval and Medieval date. The medieval features included a stone base of a possible riverside quay, road metalling, occupation deposits and rubbish pits. Post medieval cess tanks were also uncovered. (1-2)
