During works associated with the A20 road and sewer scheme, post medieval (mostly 19th century) brick built cellar walling was located beneath Townwall Street, near the junction of Townwall and Bench Street, these include the cellar walls of the 'Kings Arms'. Earlier post medieval walls, constructed of chalk blocks, were apparent at the northern end of the trench, near the line of the Medieval town wall. (1)
