In 1974 KARU excavations in an area bounded by Bench Street, Fishmongers Lane and Mill Lane, revealed a Medieval stone base which is possibly the remains of a riverside quay (location accurate to the nearest 20m based on available information).

In 1974 trial excavations undertaken by Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit near Bench Street, Dover, revealed a Medieval stone base which is possibly the remains of a riverside quay. (1) No further information about the location or circumstances of this discovery is available.
