The site of a Second World War roadblock constructed at the junction of The Square and Canterbury Road, Birchington in mid 1940 to counter the threat of German Invasion. The roadblock was manned by Birchington Home Guard and is recorded in the war diaries of 198 Infantry Brigade - Ref: 151. (1)
