This inn is shown on the 1st edition OS map of 1874. Its name is uncertain but could possibly called 'The Victoria Inn' an inn of this name is listed in the vicinity in the Canterbury Directory for 1878. It appears short lived. By 1931 the address in Kelly's Directory lists a shop. The street numbers in Wincheap have changed several times and as a consequence there is much confusion in tracing properties from old record.
In 1888 No. 74 Wincheap Street was 'The Royal George', and Edward Savage, was the Licensee. Ancestral research suggests that it was a pub from the 17th century (2023).
