An inn is shown at 109 Northgate on the 1st edition OS Map. It is listed in the Kelly's Directory of 1931 as The Grapes Inn. It is still listed in Kelly's Directory of 1964, however sometime between 1964-67 the inn closed and in the Kelly's Directory for 1967 it is listed as the Northgate Offlicence. The site is now (2002) occupied by Sarah Hairdressers.
