A Fremlins/Whitbread/Flints/Rigdens inn.
An old building in Wincheap, probably 15th century. It was registered in the Licensing List of 1692 and the Billeting List for soldiers in the following year listed it for 6 soldiers.
An early owner of the inn was Thomas Blunden and when he died his widow, Mary, and sons, William (a haberdasher) and Ralph (an apothecary) sold … 'The King's Head together with the stables, outhouses, buildings, yards, backsides, orchard garden … Occupation William Fox' in 1723 to Rest Fenner of Canterbury (Brewer).
The innkeeper in 1846 was James Hubbard. In 1849 the King's Head was purchased by Rigden's from Flint's for £300. In 1865 a Canterbury Directory named Mr Branchley as the innkeeper of a King's Head in Wincheap. This inn has been given another number in Wincheap since 1965. It is now numbered 204 Wincheap.
