The Canterbury UAD states that this inn previously belonged to Rigdens/Mackeson/Fremlins.
This inn was previously The Duke of Cumberland and for a time The Rose. The Rose was licensed in 1692.
Rigdens Rent Books report:
Dukes Head, St. Pauls. 1804 Robert Lawrence paid £11.6.0. Ent He continued paying yearly until 1822 when the rent had increased to £12. 12. 0. In 1806 Robert Lawrence also paid 18/- per year Land Tax.
The Licensing List in 1831 named William White as innkeeper. The Licensing List in 1848/9 named Mary White (widow of William). The Licensing List of 1862 named Hammon Divers as innkeeper.
The Dukes Head Inn closed in 1975 and is now a restaurant.
