The Fleur de Lis Inn is reputed to have been one of the oldest hostelries in the City of Canterbury, possibly dating back to c. 1350, however little is known of it.

The Fleur de Lis occupied No. 34 High Street, a long narrow building running back from the High Street frontage. It had a large yard to its rear and here also was the Fleur de Lis Tap, both the yard and Tap having access from White Horse Lane. The inns original court was later converted into a lounge. The building, believed to have been timber-framed, had 13th -14th century widows and a Tudor staircase. Charles Dickens stayed there on a number of occassions and it is mention as the Fleur de Lis Hotel in 1883 and still the same in Kelly's Directory of 1949-50. In 1961 Kelly's Directory the Empire Catering Co. (snack bar) occupied the site. By the 1980's part of the site (34b) had become a Wimpey Bar and the other part (34) Hargreaves Sports Shop. The Fleur de Lis Tap later became the Cherry Tree Public House.
