A series of interventions including evaluations, watching briefs and a borehole survey, culminating in an open area excavation to the rear of the Beaney Institute were carried out by Canterbury Archaeological Trust between 2008 and 2010. The area became densely occupied again in the 11th/12th century. Deep, often wattle-lined and clay-capped pits, contained pottery, including complete vessels, two cresset lamps, worked animal bone objects and environmental evidence. (1)
