In 2008 Canterbury Archaeological Trust carried out an evaluation. Large clay extraction pits were found, dated to the Roman period. These were filled with a large amount of tile and brick wasters. Potter found with the dumped material was of the mid 2nd and early 3rd century. Post holes and stakeholes could relate to structures associated with this phase of activity on the site. Pits were also found. This activity is probably directly linked with the nearby tile kilns to the southeast (see TR 15 NW 479). The road found on the kiln site was also found to cross this site. The road was sealed beneath a layer of silt which had been cut by an inhumation burial. The burial could be of late Roman date but this is unclear. (1-2)
