In 2003 Museum of London Archaeology Service carried out an evaluation and an excavation at the former Puma Power Plant site in Ash. A cluster of Roman features were found in one part of the site. These included pits, gullies, post holes and the remains of a robbed-out timber building. These are of early Roman date, likely to have been backfilled after AD 120. (1)

The excavation found that occupation started during the 1st century AD and probably continued until the 3rd century. An area of metalling may have been part of a yard or a trackyway. The two areas of the site excavated appeared to fall in areas of settlement (in the north east of the site) and fields (to the south west). (2)
