Monument details

HER Number:TR 36 NW 28
Type of record:Findspot
Name:Roman coin hoard, Mount Pleasant, Minster

Summary

A hoard of Roman silver coins in an urn was reportedly found during ploughing in c.1630. This findspot was located near the site of a windmill on King William's Mount at Mount Pleasant, coins found at a later date near this location were thought to belong to this hoard. There is some confusion over this as Anglo-Saxon coins are recorded in the Isle of Thanet Sites and Monuments Record and in Medieval Archaeology. It seems that either the grid reference is wrong or that the coins, which are Roman have been misinterpreted.
