[TR 34636904] Roman remains found A.D. 1860 (NAT) (1) [TR 34636904] Roman pottery and glass found (NAT) (2) A bottle-shaped earthen vessel was found with six Samian saucers, about 8 inches diameter, in the valley of Dene Chapel, Garlinge, in 1864 (a) and a lump of bronze from the smelting pot, not necessarily Roman, was found in Twenty's Brickfield, near Shottenden (b). (3) On exhibition in Margate Public Library (c) are two glass vessels and a bronze bracelet, belonging to the Bullen Collection, which were probably found at Twenties Brickfield, 1860-65. The brickfield is disused and converted to arable. There is no record of subsequent finds and nothing has been noted by the farmer when ploughing. The finds suggest burials but none of the items noted by Auth 3 have been traced in the local museums. (4) A cremation cemetery of the C2nd-C3rd was discovered here. (5) additional reference (6-9)
