An hexagonal `Penfold Type' pillar box stands at the corner of Grimstone Avenue and Sandgate Road, opposite the Metropole Hotel. It is free-standing, and Victorian in date. On the base is inscribed `A Hardyside and Co Ltd Derby and London'.

A Victorian pillar box, Grimston Avenue / Sandgate Road. Letter Box Study Group Box Type: 15/2. Dates from 1893 to 1900. (1)

Description from record TR 23 NW 79:
TR 216355. A pillar box stands at the corner of Grimstone Avenue and Sandgate Road, opposite the Metropole Hotel (TR 216354). It is free-standing, and Victorian in date. On the base is inscribed 'A Hardyside & Co Ltd Derby & London'. (2)

Possibly confused with the listed Victorian pillar box further east down Sandgate Road. (2)
