[TR 26655570] Moat [NR] (1) Small homestead moat at Crixhall Farm, Goodnestone. (2) The homestead moat is the site of Crixhall Manor first mentioned c. 1300 A.D., but the house had disappeared by 1799 (a) The interior of the moat was excavated by the Ash Research Group c. 1957 when 12th - 15th c. pottery and later finds were made. No foundations were encountered and it was assumed that the original building was of timber (b). The moat, in good condition though overgrown, consists of three arms, the N. arm having been destroyed during the construction of the late 17th c. house and garden, now Crixhall Farm.
