[TR 18756150] Iron Age pottery found A.D.1928 and 1929 [NAT] Iron Age remains found A.D.1928, 1929 and 1948 [NAT] Minor open settlement, early (A or B). (1-3) A probable EIA pit dwelling was partly excavated by Jenkins in 1948 in a gravel pit on the summit of Bab's Oak Hill, Sturry. Sherds of crude, handmade vessels of very friable black gritted ware, typical of the period, were found with fragments of burnt daub, and are in Canterbury Museum. (4) Mr. Jenkins confirmed that his excavation was in the pit at TR 18746150. This pit, long-disused, is now being filled in. No further finds are reported from the area, and no further information regarding the 1928-9 finds was gained during fieldwork. (5)
