In 1900 a Romano-British cremation ritual pit was discovered in a field near Ryecrofts Wood. The pit contained a large two-handles urn, cremated bone, a small Castor urn, an iron lampstand, a Samian saucer and a red goblet.

[TQ 5829 6986] Roman pottery found AD 1900 [NAT] (1) RB cremation burial group found. A large round two handled buff- coloured urn, 32 inches high and 21 inches in diameter, containing calcined bones, a small Castor urn, an iron lampstand, a Samian saucer, and a red goblet were found in a pit packed with large flints,3 feet 4 inches by 4 feet 3 inches and 3 feet deep in a field near RyeCroft Wood. Urn in now in Rochester Museum. (2) No further information. (3) Ritual pit. (4)
