TR 178373. Belgic and Roman farmstead situated four kilometres to the east of the newly discovered Iron Age and Roman site at Shrine Farm, Postling (TR 13 NW 25). It is one of three new sites found on the Greensand ridge within four kilometres of construction work on the route of the new M20 Folkestone to Ashford Motorway. Discovered by the Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit. Publication by J Willson is forthcoming. (1) TR 178373 Newington. Excavation in advance of motorway - construction (M20) revealed occupation covering an area of some 70 x 40 m. Four ditches probably relate to enclosures or fields, while other possible pits and ditches suggest a small farmstead devoid of masonry buildings. The associated pottery ranges from the first to the third centuries. Information supplied by B Philp and J Willson. (2)
